Edu-Chess, established for eight years, is an after school program teaching chess to children in a scholastic and fun environment. Chess Programs at Edu-Chess are designed to foster intellectual and emotional growth in children.

Roger Weerasinghe, Director of Edu-Chess, requires all potential teachers to be Certified Edu-Chess Instructors.  Edu-Chess instructors are held to high standards, making Edu-Chess the leader in chess instruction for children in the Los Angeles area.

Edu-Chess Approach

We introduce the great history of chess to children, using a scholastic approach of  a twenty-minute lesson, with thirty-minutes of chess playing time. 

We present chess as an enriching experience, as well as fun and challenging, with exciting rewards.  We create a social environment, which encourages children to  continue chess while developing an appreciation for the game.  Promoting self-esteem is an integral part of our program while Patience, Persistence and Good Sportsmanship is emphasized.
